It’s been a busy week.
We played a Mardi Gras parade for 15,000 people — I’ll get video soon, you wouldn’t believe me if i wrote it.
Then we played the Red and the Black and met Cubbiebear. Truly a pleasure — mad skillz.
I took my dad to go see the BSO perfom LIFE: a Journey Through Time last night at the music center at Strathmore in Bethesda. First of all — that place rules — I highly recommend seeing a show there when you can. Very easy to get to on metro. Top notch facilities, simply top, maybe even nicer than the Kennedy Center. The main theater has a very victorian feel with a dozen or so private balconies and excellent acoustics. The suspended translucent baffles were especially cool. And good food too,
although pricey, but hey whadya expect it is the symphony.

But all that is peripheral to the real issue: Philip Glass is the fucking man, so is Franz Lanting, and Alex ____ (forgot his last name) the “visual choreographer.” I wish I could explain how kickass this presentation was. hmmm…
you know how you hear that your whole life flashes before your eyes
before you croak? well this was like having the lives of everyone that has
ever lived — nay, the lives of every organism, every rock, every
particle, indeed every idea — flash before your eyes if you were an eagle free of prejudice. A blended buddist beatitude.

And after that I went to the hippest place I’ve ever been (outside of Brooklyn of course): all these art kids occupying a house on florida ave. listening to really loud experimental jazz. After one particularly frenetic dose of disjointed cacophony the drummer said “we call that …” and everyone laughed because the very idea that music of that ilk could have sufficient repeatability to warrant a name was absurd. And absurdity is so goddamn funny! I had to shower when I got home the hipness was so thick.

tomorrow: the metaphysical’s album release at Dremo’s. be there.

Oh yeah if you haven’t heard, rex’s new video is out. biggups to Brian Stansfield over at Dead City.
